Amethyst for Pets, Animals & Their People 💜

There is something lovely about taking a peaceful moment with a pet or animal. You might sit beside your resting dog, enjoy your cat’s company or spend time with a donkey in the pasture. Amethyst can become a meaningful part of your own spiritual practice during these moments—a reminder to slow down and bring kindness to the connection.
With its beautiful purple colour, amethyst is often included in crystal practices focused on calm, reflection and spiritual connection. At Cedar Cove Wellness, I enjoy exploring ways to include crystals in Reiki practice for people, pets and animals while respecting each animal’s comfort and choice.
Amethyst’s spiritual qualities
In crystal traditions, amethyst is associated with:
- Calming energy: an intention for a peaceful atmosphere and an unhurried moment together.
- Comfort and reassurance: a symbolic reminder to bring gentleness and patience to your time with an animal.
- Peaceful connection: a focus for being present and enjoying companionship.
- Spiritual protection: traditionally used in practices centred on protection and personal energetic boundaries.
- Harmony and emotional balance: an intention for steadiness, kindness and balance in the connection you share.
These qualities reflect amethyst’s traditional use in crystal and energy practices. An animal does not need a crystal nearby to enjoy your calm company.
Third Eye and Crown Chakras
Amethyst is traditionally associated with the Third Eye and Crown Chakras. In spiritual practice, these chakras are linked with intuition, inner wisdom and spiritual connection.
You might use these associations as a focus for your own meditation or Reiki practice while spending time with an animal. Stay attentive to their behaviour and comfort, allowing those cues to guide your approach.
Amethyst and Archangel Michael
Amethyst can be a lovely crystal to include when connecting with Archangel Michael.
In spiritual practice, Archangel Michael is associated with protection, courage, strength and the clearing of fear. He is often called upon for support when setting healthy boundaries, releasing unwanted energy and moving forward with confidence.
Amethyst is traditionally associated with calm, spiritual awareness and peaceful energy. Together, they can be part of a meditation focused on feeling protected, supported and connected to your inner wisdom.
Hold amethyst or place it nearby, safely out of your pet or animal’s reach, and say:
“Archangel Michael, surround me and my animal companion with your loving protection. Help us feel grounded, peaceful and safe. Clear away fear and support us with courage, strength and gentle guidance.”
You might also visualise soft blue light, purple light or a blend of both you and your animal, while remembering that the animal remains free to move away or end the moment at any time.
Choosing amethyst for a person, pet or animal
Make sure the amethyst resonates with the person, pet or animal’s energy. You can do this through intuition, dowsing or muscle testing as part of your spiritual practice. With pets and animals, also respect their behaviour, comfort and choice.
Including amethyst in Animal Reiki
If you practise Reiki, you can hold your amethyst or place it safely out of the animal’s reach as a focus for your intention. There is no need to place it on the animal or bring it close to their body.
Begin by grounding yourself and settling comfortably. Invite your animal to share the space, allowing them to approach, remain at a distance or leave. Offer Reiki in your usual way, with hands-off practice as an option that gives the animal plenty of room.
Keep your attention on the animal as a whole. A yawn, stretch or change in position can have many explanations. Moving away is enough reason to give more space, and staying nearby is not automatically permission to touch.
A simple moment together
You do not need Reiki training to enjoy a peaceful pause with an animal.
With your amethyst safely out of their reach, take a few comfortable breaths and notice the support beneath you. Let your animal choose where they would like to be.
Quietly or aloud, you might say:
“Archangel Michael, please surround us with loving protection, peace and courage. May we share this moment in comfort, trust and connection.”
There is nothing your animal needs to do. Enjoy their company for as long as they seem comfortable, and let the moment end if they move away.
Keep crystals safely out of reach
Keep amethyst in a secure place where your pet or animal cannot chew or swallow it.
The most meaningful part of this practice is the care you bring: patience, presence and respect for the animal’s choice.
These qualities reflect amethyst’s traditional use in crystal and energy practices. Crystals and Reiki do not replace medical or veterinary assessment, advice or treatment.
